HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR HORSE NEEDS OR COULD BENEFIT FROM BODYWORK

There are many signs that indicate that your horse could be in pain, including obvious signs like uneven strides, lameness, hollowed back, stiffness and more subtle ones such as changes in demenour, reluctance or apparent naughtiness, shallow breathing and minor performance issues.

Some questions that you may ask yourself are:

  • Is your horse recovering from an illness, lameness or injury?

  • Does your horse dislike being groomed or touched in certain places?

  • Are you concerned about your horse's hoof health, does your horse lose shoes or trip frequently?

  • Are you experiencing ongoing issues with your training under saddle?

The list of potential symptons goes on and on. The best thing you can do is listen to your horse and try to understand what he's telling you. Pain free horses are happy and the ones who will become safe and willing horses.

There are many factors to consider for your horse's wellbeing, and bodywork forms a part of that, in addition to proper vetinary and hoof care, diet, saddle fit and proper training.

Remember, if you are ever in any doubt about your horses health or soundness, contact your vet first.
